It’s much easier to learn something completely new than to unlearn an old habit. Just ask any parent. It’s why children are taught essential functions at an early age: they haven’t yet learned the wrong way to do things. Movement, language, mannerisms—it’s crucial that these fundamentals are properly taught to avoid the potentially painstaking unlearning process during adolescence.

As the next generation of young nonprofit professionals gears up to take on new management positions, it’s imperative that you have a strong, ongoing leadership development program in place. That way, when the time for transition arrives, everyone’s life will be a whole lot easier—your staff members will already feel prepared for their new responsibilities, and you’ll spend less of your own time training them.
Traditional budgeting and forecasting methods can no longer keep pace with today’s rapidly evolving business environment. Static budgets, rigid annual forecasts, and outdated financial models limit an organization’s ability to adapt to market shifts and economic uncertainty. 1. Always add value. The best way to ensure that you have a job all the time is to make it a point to consistently try to add value to the lives of all the people with whom you come in contact. Everyone! Always! That includes the waitress, the janitor, and the guy who parks your car. At work, that means you should always look around for ways to help other people (including donors, colleagues, board members, and associates) get what they want.
Cause Camp 2019 is a wrap! If you were able to make it, you know that it was two full days of premium education, inspiration, networking and—yes—happy hours. Receiving feedback was one of our main goals this year, so we made sure to get a lot of it. We interviewed each Cause Camp presenter and sent an anonymous survey to all attendees, whether they were physically present or joining us online.
